Ramadan a ding dong

Dear All

We expect the holy month of Ramadan to commence on Sunday, 24th September 2006.

General Guidelines for employees :

1. From the commencement of Ramadan it is legally required that no one eats, drinks, chews gum or smokes in public places during daylight hours. To be apprehended by the police or other religious representatives doing any of the above can result in imprisonment until the end of Ramadan and possibly deportation thereafter.

2. It is advised that all associates (especially females) should dress conservatively with arms, shoulders and most of the legs covered.

3. You will find that most restaurants will be closed during daylight hours (with the exception of those in tourist hotels), however some take away outlets will be working.

4. Working hours during Ramdan will be 9:00am – 5:00pm while Muslim associates who are fasting will work 10:00am – 4:00pm.

5. To accomodate the needs of non-fasting associates only one kitchen will be operational - and refreshments produced there must be consumed in the closed area around that kitchen area. Refreshments should not be consumed at desks.

6. Smokers should limit their intake and avoid smoking in the public area around the stair well.

I encourage you to consider the feelings of your muslim colleagues and to follow the Ramadan code.

Thank you and Ramadan Mubarak

Covering most of your legs? How will you survive? Why do you bother with those countries?
